Radhakant Bajpai refuses to cut his ear hair, believing it brings him good luck

Maintained by a specially prepared blend of herbal shampoo, Mr Radhakant has so far resisted the pleas of his long suffering wife to cut it off.

“She has always been asking me to cut my ear-hair, but since the official record was confirmed by Guinness, she has allowed me to keep it because it is a source of pride to me,” said Mr Radhakant, a resident of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Together, his ear hair tufts measure almost 20 inches long and now he no longer feels that the eyes of the world stare at him when out in public.

“Before people would tease me, not maliciously, but still would ask me why I never cut my ear hair.

Now I tell people with pride about the good fortune that my hair has brought me. Such as when I graduated from a prestigious college in my state and when I met my wife, although I must admit my hair was not as long then.”

Considered by Mr Radhakant, 58, to be symbol of luck and prosperity, his ear-hair has been growing since he was 18 and has never been cut.

Take Action.

Yesterday, the day after President Obama signed his stimulus bill into law, the NY Post ran a cartoon depicting the bill's "author" as a dead monkey, covered in blood after being shot by police. You can see the image by clicking on the link below.

In the face of intense criticism, the Post's editor is standing by the cartoon, claiming that it's not about Obama, has no racial undertones, and that it was simply referencing a recent incident when police shot a pet chimpanzee. But it's impossible to believe that any newspaper editor could be ignorant enough to not understand how this cartoon evokes a history of racist symbolism, or how frightening this image feels at a time when death threats against President Obama have been on the rise.

Please join me and other ColorOfChange.org members in demanding that the Post apologize publicly and fire the editor who allowed this cartoon to go to print:

www.colorofchange.org

The Post would have us believe that the cartoon is not about Obama. But on the page just before the cartoon appears, there's a big picture of Obama signing the stimulus bill. A reader paging through the Post would see Obama putting pen to paper, then turn the page to see this violent cartoon. The imagery is chilling.

There is a clear history in our country of racist symbolism that depicts Black people as apes or monkeys, and it came up multiple times during the presidential campaign.

We're also in a time of increased race-based violence. In the months following President Obama's election there has been a nationwide surge in hate crimes ranging from vandalism to assaults to arson on Black churches. There has been an unprecedented number of threats against President Obama since he was elected, with hate-based groups fantasizing about the killing of the president. Just a week ago, a man drove from Louisiana to the Capitol with a rifle, telling the police who stopped him that he had a "delivery" for the president.

There is no excuse for the Post to have allowed this cartoon to be printed, and even less for Editor Col Allan's outright dismissal of legitimate concerns.

But let's be clear who's behind the Post: Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch, the Post's owner, is the man behind FOX News Channel. FOX has continually attacked and denigrated Black people, politicians, institutions at every opportunity, and ColorOfChange has run several campaigns to make clear how FOX poisons public debate.

I don't expect much from Murdoch. However, with enough public pressure, we can set the stage for advertisers and subscribers to think long and hard before patronizing outlets like the Post that refuse to be held accountable.

You can help, by making clear that the Post's behavior is unacceptable, and by asking your friends and family to do the same. Please join me:

Late as Usual.

I just wanted to say I am very happy about John Forte's release from prison. Im still trippin that Bush had something to do with this but whatever....

Forté — who studied violin at the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire as a youth — co-wrote and produced two songs on the Fugees' Grammy-winning 1996 smash, The Score. Two years later, he released his debut, Poly Sci, on which Fugees member Wyclef Jean has an executive-producer credit. He released his second album, I, John, while in prison in 2002.

Zhane.

When I was a Sophmore in highschool I was going to school in San Jose. Eastside San Jose to be exact(yes, that matters). Anyway, I had a boyfriend who went to highschool in Sunnyvale. We met at a CRACKIN 16 and over joint called the EDGE in Palo Alto. That spot used to be the lick. We met at a Digable Planets show. Talk about an off the chain concert and a fresh way to start a young relationship!! Anyway, we would send a casssette single of this Zhane song back and forth to each other in the mail from San Jose to Sunnyvale once a week. AAAhhhhh, young love.

On this day 2/3/09.

I woke up feeling sick this morning. It's crazy to go to sleep healthy and wake up ill. It reminds me that anything can change at anytime without notice. It is up to us to honor these moments and honor each other. I was talking to my younger brother recently about the fear and sadness we feel when thinking of the inevitable passing of our 77 year old granny. She is the glue. She is the women that holds our dreams in her bolsa. She is everything to all of us. Our family is huge and she is the pillar that keeps the foundation locked.
Speaking about this made us both reflect on our realtionships with others and also the ways in which we honor ourselves. It is so important to love yourself. Some mornings I dont recognize the image reflecting in the mirror. I am everchanging. Ever-moving toward complete love of self. This is the hardest challenge I have faced. It is simple to pour love out on others but how true is it if the well it flows from isnt pure. My well is in constant need of refreshing and cleansing. Knowing this keeps me on point. I am not and never will be perfect. But love is perfect and if I can strive to attain pure love of self and others I may just taste a bit of that perfection. God's perfection.
